Schaumweinbar

This day out-and-about happened to be an evening out-and-about only. These occasions are even rarer than full days out-and-about. An evening out-and-about (at a weeknight that is) requires me to be home from work early enough to get prepared, say, at 5 p.m. and to be out the door by 6:30 p.m. This weeknight in mid-February was one of these rare occasions. I had picked my light turquoise color dress with dolman sleeves. Besides the great feel of it, it makes my shoulders look quite small. And it was a good opportunity for my long beige winter coat to make a showing, which I really love. It is warm and heavy and goes (no pun intended) well with my flat brown boots. As you can tell, I took the bus from close to home to save some time. I went to Frankfurt-Süd, the Sachenhausen central station, the second biggest and busiest station in Frankfurt and walked down Schweizer Straße toward the river Main. My first stop was a small bar for a drink, followed by dinner at an Italian restaurant. I h...

“What’s in a name?"

"That which we call a rose by any other name would smell just as sweet" Sorry, lots of text this time, but worthwhile reading, I think. I had fun writing it. I picked Franziska as my femme name – and had it approved by my wife – some 10 years or so back. Why did I pick this name – because I think it is great and it felt right. Period. Having done some research (you remember that I am an engineer and scientist) on the name “Franziska” for this blog posting, I found out the following interesting facts, many of which confirm that I picked the right name. The German women’s first names “Franziska” and “Franka” both derive from “Franziskus,” the German version of the Latin “Francesco.” “Francesco,” in turn originated from the Old High German name “Franko,” which derives from the Germanic major tribe of the “Franken,” which formed in the third century A.D. under Roman rule in the very area of nowadays north-western Germany where I was born and raised. Just to give you an idea, at i...

Stepping out … and stepping in.

Day one of two out and about en femme in October 2022. Franzi spent the day in downtown Frankfurt, followed by an early dinner and a theater performance at “Alte Oper.” Outfit for the day and evening was a wonderful petrol-colored knee-length dolman sleeve dress with a black leather jacket and soft black boots.   Portrait of the day. Do you know why they have Prosecco bars at department stores and why they are on the same floor as women’s apparel? ... Because of girls like Franziska! Dinner at a place where Franziska had been a number of times. It’s one of the places with those so very charming but clueless Italian waiters. Stepping out … I have left movie theaters before, if the movie was offensive or highly predictable, but I have never left a live theater performance – before this day. At “Alte Oper” Frankfurt they were perfoming  „20.000 Meilen unter dem Meer - Das Fantasy Musical“ (Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Seas – The Fantasy Musical).  It was horrible! I wen...
