Weekend trip crossdressed: “Romeo and Juliet” at “Bayerische Staatsoper”

The “Bayerische Staatsoper” (Bavarian state opera) was founded in 1653 and nowadays plays at the beautiful “Nationaltheater” (National Theater) from 1818, located at the heart of Munich. People show up dressed very elegantly and the whole atmosphere is simply fantastic.

The performance that evening was William Shakespeare’s “Romeo & Juliet” as a ballet, which Franziska greatly enjoyed. What sounds like a simple (but tragic) love story, provides for complexities that I was very curious to see how this will be communicated in a ballet performance. Granted, knowing the plot well makes it a lot easier to interpret the scene and to enjoy the acting.

A wonderful compliment!

While Franziska enjoyed a glass of Champagne before the performance, a handsome middle-aged man appeared next to her and – with a great smile on his face – said “Sie sehen todschick aus!” (“You look absolutely smashing!”).

This ballet performance had two intermissions, one of 30 minutes and one of 15 minutes. Hence, Franziska was able to enjoy in the first intermission not only a pre-ordered drink, but also a very tasty pre-ordered variation of salmon, both found at an assigned table.

And you will have expected this one, a night cap at a (traditional, not to say, anything but modern. I guess taxi drivers may not be the best to ask for a recommendation) wine bar.

    1. Dear Sue, Thanks for visiting and commenting. It is so much fun to put together an outfit, to look at yourself in a mirror and to say "Whoa"! I do the same in boy mode, btw. Love, Franzi

  3. Hello Franzi,
I would have to agree... You do look smashing.
Do you go to these events alone or do you have a partner and who takes your pictures?
I have been tempted to go to similar events but unfortunately I have no one to accompany me and am reluctant to go alone.

    1. Dear Pamela, Thank you very much for visiting and commenting. I go to these events alone and simply ask other people to take pictures. We do not go out together in our home town for obvious reasons and we have not had a good opportunity in a long time to jointly go out elsewhere. Best wishes, Franzi
