“Deutsches Theater Munich” was showing “Dracula” as a musical that night. So, how do you dress up for Count Dracula? A sparkly LBD, fishnets, heels, an anklet, and a choker sounded about right.

“The way Franzi does it!” (#3)
The four key elements to passing as a woman – according to Franzi.
Going out en femme is a fantastic experience and so much fun. And if the impression grows on you that you can pass as a woman, it gets even better.
It is my ambition to pass – in other words, I prefer to pass over being read. According to my experience, there are four key elements to passing as a woman: outfit, face, gait, and posture. Those are the four key challenges that I continue to work on every time I go out.
Putting together a fantastic outfit is very easy if you have a good sense for style, colors, and fabrics – and if you have a full closet to choose from. I compose my daily male outfits with the same sense for style, colors, and fabrics and with the same attention to detail, such as a matching scarf. In essence, I practice this skill every day.
With face, I mean hairstyle, make-up, jewelry, and accessories, such as glasses and sunglasses. There are a great many tutorials available online, both for cis and trans. You do not have to exhibit a beard shadow, there are great tricks to cover up.
With gait, I mean hip movement, steps, movements of arms and hands. I find curves essential for a female gait. Curves make you move differently – but alone having (created) curves will not do the trick. The challenge is to make this all look natural, not to exaggerate one or the other. And it continues to be major challenge for me.
With posture, I mean position standing (at a traffic light, in line at the cash register), position sitting (on the subway, in a restaurant, on a bar stool), how to move or hold or where to put your spare arm and hand (the one not carrying your handbag). Pay attention to your shoulders! Always pull them back. It will make them appear smaller and it will accentuate your chest. It might feel unnatural at first. Do the exercise in front of a mirror and you will see the difference.
You can learn about all four aspects if you observe women. Just don’t be creepy about it! I learned that the share of women that excel at the art of female presentation is low: some don’t care, some choose not to, some try but fail. I started by identifying those who care, who choose to, and who succeed. Those are my role models.
Excellent recommendations! Like you, I much prefer passing to being read, but I have conditioned myself to hope for the best and expect the worst. I am careful to pick clothing that is situationally and age appropriate, take considerable pains to nail my makeup, and am careful about posture and gait. To my great surprise and satisfaction, I have indeed managed to pass on many occasions, based on comments from women who clearly presumed me to be a genetic female.
ReplyDeleteDear Commenter, Thanks for visiting my blog and for your comment. I do not know if you visit regularly, but if you select "Franzi'sWay" in the labels, you find my (so far limited) posts with recommendation. I am happy for you to mange passing. That is a great success and great feeling. Good luck and looking forward to you visiting my blog again. Franzi
DeleteAnother great outfit, Franzi. I suppose if you really want to make it perfect for Dracula you should add a long black velvet cloak!
ReplyDeleteGood tips on posture.

Dear Sue, Thanks for visiting and commenting. I'll keep in mind to add a cloak the next time I see the Count! I am glad you like my recommendations. My wife and I are currently on vacation hiking in Alto Adige. Unfortunately, that will be in drab for me. Best wishes, Franzi
