We are still on that same day when Franzi visited the EURO 2024 “Fan Zone” in Frankfurt. I headed back east towards the city center, with a view on the western flank of the “Iron Bridge.” The river Main meanders some 500 km east to west through the center of Germany and flows into the river Rhein, right across from the city of Mainz, a mere 40 km from Frankfurt. The Rhine flows north towards the Netherlands, where it flares out and eventually reaches the North Sea through different streams. If you get off your boat on the northern bank next to the “Iron Bridge” (say, at a river cruises Rhein-Main-Donau), you find yourself right at the historic city center. On the right side in this picture, situated on southern bank, you can see Dreikönigskirche (Church of the Three Kings).
“Römer square” with Frankfurt’s town hall “Römer,” which has served this purpose since the 15th century already.
No outing without a stop at some shopping location – just for good measure.
Did I tell you about my preference for sparkling wine, and for mingling in crowds of fellow wine lovers in public places? I sure have come a long way since my first modern-day outings some 10+ years ago, when I crossed the street if I saw somebody coming my way on my side.
The evening started with a burger dinner, followed by a visit to the small Kellertheater (Basement Theater) Frankfurt together with my CD sister Susan, where we watched the performance of an Agatha Christie-based play.
It was the first time ever that I have individually met up with a sister to go out together. It was great, we had good conversations, and we had some great pictures taken of the two of us at intermission by some other theater guest, along with a noticeable smirk on their face and a charming comment.
