I have watched live sport competitions in my life in American football, Aussi football, rugby, US National basketball, US and European ice hockey, and a number of these more-or-less odd sports, you can watch at Olympic Games, of which I visited two in my life. I even watched a game of cricket once (early in my life), at least to the point when I fell asleep and was scolded by my seat neighbors. Consequently, I never watched a live game of baseball, because I was afraid that the same thing would happen. The last time I watched soccer live at a stadium, was in the early 1980s, when my home team had a chance to advance from 3rd to 2nd level in the German Bundesliga.
On this wonderful day in late spring, Franzi visited the Frankfurt public viewing area of EURO 2024, just the enjoy the atmosphere and international audience. This championship takes place every four years (between the FIFA world cups), with one country or two neighboring countries as hosts, and is organized by UEFA (Union of European Football Association).
Don't get me wrong, I watched most of the EURO and FIFA finals of the last 20 years on TV, in the comfort of my home.
Outfit of the day was again that very, very light, black silk dress that I had worn during the evening of the last outing, while visiting a local drag show together with my wife.
Portrait of the day
At the bus stop, as usual, sitting pretty, waiting for a passerby to take a photo. To no avail this time.
I took the bus to Südbahnhof, the central station of Frankfurt-Sachsenhausen, hence south of the river. From there, I walked north towards the river and stopped at one of Franzi’s occasional hangouts, a local bar at Schweizer Platz, for a drink.
And from there, Franzi joined the EURO 2024 public viewing area called “Fan zone” along the northern bank of the river. I had shared the map of the locality in an earlier posting.
There is more to report about this day, so stay tuned, as I will provide some more Frankfurt sights and will tell you about meeting up with a sister that evening for dinner and a theater visit in the upcoming posting. Aah, a live theater visit, how wonderful.
